Pick a jump starter by engine size

The engine rating is the number that tells you whether a jump starter fits your vehicle. Peak amps rise with it, but we have not found a published standard that defines them, so we sort by engine size first.

Smallest unit that covers your engine

Find your engine size in the owner's manual or on the registration, then read down the gas or diesel column to the first model at or above it. All eight are listed to UL 2743 in the Intertek directory.

Manufacturer ratings from each model's NOCO spec page, checked September 24, 2026. Safety listings from the Intertek directory, same date.

Two lines from one maker

NOCO sells two families side by side. The original Boost (GB20 to GB150) and the newer Boost X (GBX45 to GBX155). Model for model, the Boost X units on NOCO's spec pages carry higher ratings and larger batteries for similar weight, and charge over USB-C at up to 20 volts. The GB70 and GB150 keep a 12 volt accessory output that the Boost X spec pages do not list.

Diesel is where the lines differ most. The GB20 is not recommended for diesel at all; the GB40 stops at 3.0 liters; the GBX45 reaches 4.0.

Why peak amps are not in the first column

Peak amps are the headline on every box, and the one figure without a published standard that would let buyers compare it across brands. Peak amps, explained goes through what the number can and cannot tell you.
