The number on the box is not the whole story

We check jump starter and battery charger claims against the maker's own spec sheet and the public safety directory, then show you both, with the date we looked.

Some Amazon listing titles say

8000A

A peak-amp figure. And peak amps are not governed by a universal testing standard, as one jump starter maker puts it.

NOCO's GB150 spec sheet says

3000A

Plus what matters more: gas engines to 9.0 L, diesel to 7.0 L, an 88 Wh battery, and a UL 2743 listing we can link to. Full record.

Charge time estimate

to full, 50 Ah battery at 50% with a 5 A charger

Start with your question

Questions people ask

Where do your numbers come from?

Ratings come from the manufacturer's own spec page, safety listings from the public Intertek directory, and charge times from NOCO's published tables. Every page shows the date we checked.

Do you test the products?

No. We compare published ratings and public safety records, and we say so on every page. We do not publish star ratings or prices.

How do I pick a jump starter?

By the engine rating in liters, gas and diesel separately, not by peak amps. Choose the smallest model rated at or above your engine.

How long does a car battery take to charge?

About 7.5 hours for a 50 Ah battery at half charge on a 5 amp charger, using NOCO's charge-time ratio. The calculator works it out for your battery.

What we do and do not do

Every spec on this site links to the manufacturer page it came from and carries the date we read it. Every safety listing links to its record in the Intertek directory. When a maker's own pages disagree with each other, or a listing disagrees with the maker, we show both numbers instead of picking the flattering one.

We do not test products in a lab or a driveway, and we do not publish star ratings. How we check explains the process and its limits.
